Living Life as an Adventure

Enjoying the sunIn the process of starting my own business, I realize that there are challenges in my life that I need to overcome in order to be successful. One of them is ‘talking to people’.  I did not realize that this simple task was a challenge for me until I started my Business, and it became ‘mandatory’ for me to interact with people.  While I sat here contemplating who I should call and how I should present my product, I felt crippled.  How am I ever going to be successful if I can’t even speak?

I decided to pass time (again) by browsing my Facebook, after I made  a cup of coffee, and send the kids off to school.  Oh, I think I should clear off this area of my desk so I can focus a little better.  The list goes on and on.  …And before you know it… another day has gone by.

One of my favorite motivational speaker made this post on Facebook (yes, one of my distractions).  I decided to blog about it (another one of my better distractions) before I get to work.  I wanted this quote in my blog so I can always have access to it; and others can be motivated by it as well.

Decide to make your life a living adventure. Is your life what you want it to be?  Let’s look at the greatest adventure you could ever possibly imagine.
Stop for a moment and think about what it means to be alive. By virtue of being alive, you can sense, you can reason, you can move from place to place, you can make decisions, you can create, you can inspire, you can know joy, laughter and beauty….  When you think about it, every moment of every day is an incredible adventure, overflowing with possibilities.  Yet too often, we just take life for granted, letting it pass by in boredom and frustration.  What a waste.
There is a priceless magnificent adventure waiting for you right now.  Its your life. Take a look around you. There are countless places to be explored, people to meet, things to be learned and challenges that will give you strength and fulfillment.  There is so much to be lived and experienced.  You could spend a thousand lifetimes doing it all.
So, resolve right now to fill your one lifetime with as much living as possible.  Take delight in the adventure.  You have something special.  YOU have GREATNESS with YOU.

I believe that once I decide to “fill my lifetime with as much living as possible, ” it would be much easier to make myself available to people.  I have so much to offer, and so much to share.  God has placed these tools in front me to use, not to sit on. These tools are to be used so that others can have confidence in Jesus Christ, and confidence in living.  Once I decide to use these tools, Paul reminds us that,
I am sure that the One who began a good work in you will carry it on until it is completed.- Philippians 1:6 (NIRV)

Can You Hear me Lord

Going through the economic storm, we sometimes ask the question, “why?’  You think to yourself, ‘I am not a bad person.  I love God with all my heart.  I try my best to live by His Word.  So, why am I going through this?  Why did I loose my job?  Why isn’t my marriage working?  Why am I not married, yet?”

2009: The past year has been extremely rough for me.  Sometimes, I’m not sure how to put it into words, but I wondered at times, has God forgotten me? Does He hear me when I pray? I did everything I knew how to do in order to please Him.  Sure, there were many things that I needed to work on, but I had and still have such a great desire to please God.  I began to doubt whether or not I was in the will of God.  Maybe, there was a key component I was missing.  I thought to myself, ‘I paid my tithe and offering. I am involved in Sunday school and a musician and a song leader.  I am doing everything that I think that God wants me to do.  So, why am I going through this?

My job had to cut some people, and guess who was one of them?  Me.  At the same time, my Mother who was a woman that loved and served God all her life was very sick.  Though she was sick, it was always in the back of my mind that she would come out of it.  It became more evident as to how serious her illness was by November of ’08. Before the storm, I saw it coming. I prayed and asked my church family to pray.  Yet, the storm still came.  I lost my job, a day before my birthday, and then lost my Mother two weeks before Christmas of ’08. Words could not describe what I was going through.  My emotion was a roller coaster.  BUT God kept me.

The Right Attitude

shockHaving the right attitude can make a big difference when facing adversities.  It does not matter what the case is, having the right attitude can lead to better outcomes. What does Paul says about attitude?

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8)

Keep in mind that once you have made a commitment to walk with God, He will fight our battles.  A good way to look at the situation is to know that the outcome is not based on us and our own capabilities; it is based on God’s infinite love, His strength, His wisdom, and His power over all things.

A method that I learned to use whenever my problems seem to overwhelm me is… instead of praying, “Oh God, help me, please!  When is this trial going to end?”

I learned to pray, “God, give me the right attitude.  Take away the negative emotions and thoughts that are overwhelming me and clouding my mind.”

I recently discovered this…and it works ever single time. Once you recognize who God is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him, you just have to keep the right attitude through your trials.  Know that in the end, there is ALWAYS a positive outcome.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
